Troy Sprinklers — FAQ
Answers about winterization, start-ups, repairs, pumps, and service areas in and around Troy, MI.
When should I schedule my sprinkler winterization in Troy?
Most homeowners book **late September–early November**, before sustained overnight freezes (≤ 32°F). Shaded lots and low areas can freeze sooner—earlier is safer.
How much is winterization?
Standard residential blowout is **$75** (up to 8 zones, municipal water). **Pump systems are $125** (up to 10 zones) and include draining/prime protection. **+$10 per hose line**. Larger systems or special setups are quoted in advance.
How long does the appointment take?
Typical Troy homes (6–8 zones) take **20–30 minutes** once connected. Larger properties, complex manifolds, or pump-fed systems can take longer.
Do I need to be home?
No—if we can access your **controller** and **connection/backflow**. Please unlock gates, keep pets inside, and clear leaves/debris from valve boxes.
Is compressed air safe for my irrigation system?
Yes. We use a **regulated compressor** and short bursts within safe ranges for residential components. Zones run until only fine mist/air is present—then we move on.
Do you use antifreeze?
No. Lawn irrigation is winterized with **regulated air and proper draining**, not antifreeze.
Can you winterize drip zones and the backflow preventer?
Yes. **Drip/micro zones** are included, and we **drain & isolate** the backflow for winter.
Do you handle pump systems (well/pond/river)?
Yes. Pump systems are **$125** (up to 10 zones) and include **pump draining & prime protection**. We’ll winterize intake and irrigation lines where accessible.
What if a zone doesn’t turn on during winterization?
We attempt quick diagnosis (stuck valve/solenoid, wiring, closed isolation). If it needs more time, we’ll tag the issue and recommend a spring repair/tune-up.
Should I unplug or remove my controller after winterization?
We set the controller to **OFF/Winter**. If you prefer, you can unplug a plug-in transformer; for hard-wired controllers, leave powered so programming isn’t lost.
Do you offer spring start-ups and mid-season tune-ups?
Yes. We handle **spring start-ups**, coverage tuning, nozzle swaps, head raises/straightens, small leak repairs, and controller programming.
Will winterization guarantee no spring leaks?
Winterization removes water to **prevent freeze damage**, but it’s not a full inspection. Hidden issues (aging heads/valves, buried fittings) can surface at start-up. We can repair anything we find in spring.
Do you test backflows?
We **repair** backflow assemblies. For **certified testing**, ask our team about availability/coordination in your area.
What do I do if the forecast suddenly drops below freezing?
Shut off irrigation water, run one short manual cycle to relieve pressure, and **call us**. We’ll prioritize based on freeze risk and openings.

We service **Troy**, **Clawson**, **Birmingham**, **Bloomfield Hills**, **Rochester Hills**, **Sterling Heights**, **Madison Heights**, **Royal Oak**, and **Auburn Hills**.
